I strongly recommend you to wait my tutorial, it's half wrote and will include the basic build but the correction of several mistakes, also many corrections to the basis. Not because I'm a genius, in contrary I made many mistakes and I learnt in the hard way, so I will be able to say what can and how could be corrected.
The Tamiya is a problem. Maybe you could take advantage of the hull but will lost most of the turret functions. A smaller speaker box will you allow to place the electric in the hull, recommended. I used the HL base for the turret and servo for rotation, I imagine will be very difficult to use the fantastic bearing Tamiya offers.
Sincerely I have been around this for 4 years now and after build the 2A7 Tamiya based I realized this couldn't be done easily with a Tamiya, unless you are prepared to lost many functions.
HOWEVER if you are brave enough you could use the turret base plate from Tamiya, but you already have constructed the turret which it was not a good idea if you went for Tamiya.
