No doubt about that but always some sort of compromise is involved. That sort of grain orientation will be a bit heavier then just using some 4 lb sheet 1/16” . The stiffness not only comes from the skins but the internal construction. Since I paint more then Monokote these days, a layer of 3/4oz glass cut on a 45 degree bias helps a bit too. As typical with our hobby, many different ways to reach the goal.
