In the olden days, we also used fuel tubing rather than shrink sleeve. Use enough tubing to get outside of the cowl. Slip it over the needle. Fill the remaining length with dowel, music wire, brass tubing etc. to keep it stiff. Actually, that is how the choke for my current gasser is set up right now...
