Motor can handle larger ESC, an ESC does not “push' current through a motor.
Current is determined by voltage, Kv, prop-diameter and -pitch, not by ESC
Whether ESC and motor can handle that current without going up in smoke is a very different story.

Current is proportional to voltage² and Kv³. By going from 3s to 4s current wants to increase by factor (4/3)²= 1.7. Components usually are not chosen for such an increase. You have to prop down to decrease current.
