In view of the AMA's (Muncie) record of enforcing their own rules, I have little doubt that were the AMA to enact such a thing it would be ignored at the club level like most everything else. And making it exclusively run by modelers is tantamount to nepotism. The good ol' boys club would be in full swing in short order.
And what about non-AMA flyers? Would they be expected to go to an AMA club to get checked? Last I heard they were about 80% of the total.
No! If such a thing as a check ride comes about, the FAA will have to supervise it at every level. Even if it simply means periodic visits to a flying field to ensure the checks are being done as they should be.
I for one am willing to play any game the FAA devises. But NOT if the AMA is sole administrator of said game at the local level.
