Default How to fix a hole?

I'm building my second kit, a Top Flight DC-3 (my first was a Sig SE, pretty easy). While sanding the stab my finger went through the 1/16 balsa sheet, and I was trying to be careful. [:@]That stuff is more fragile than an eggshell, I'll have to be really, really careful when it's completed and I'm carrying it around! Anyway back to the problem, what is the best way to fix this? The hole isn't completely through, more of a finger size crater that's cracked around the edge. I've contemplated cutting out the damaged area and making a flush patch with some thin strips placed around the outside of the hole to glue to. Is this the correct way, or is there a better alternative?

Thanks,
Randy
