I've used self-adhesive and non also. I have found the self-adhesive to stick reasonably well to batteries, better if I scuff them first. But it eventually peels. I stick it back down with CA when that happens, which buys me a bit more use. I've had the non self-adhesive stuff actually delaminate from the glue, leaving a rough textured layer of glue behind as it pulls off cleanly.
