What Dieselman said. It's what I plan to do with my EVO. As for manual. At this level of aircraft, and considering what's left for the end user to 'assemble', they assume that you already know pretty much how to do what needs to be done. But the original UF manual does help a little:

As for the gear/brake controller, totally agree. What more do you expect from a $20 controller though. I highly recommend the xicoy(all touch screen, gyro assisted steering, gyro braking, and pulse/anti-lock braking). And the JP gear operate off of current limiting for extension/retraction, so that's how you'll have to set up the xicoy. Not sure what the EVO gear current limit is, but my Rebel HOT was around .6 amps peak-to-peak. I'm sure you could start there.
