You need to change the backplate to a non-Pullstart backplate and cut the starter drive pin off the crank. Without the starter shaft in the engine and retained somehow, there is nothing to seal the crankcase from the atmosphere and it will not run. I’d advise you put the Pullstart back on the engine to retain the starter shaft and just not use the Pullstart. That is the easiest and cheapest option.
