Basic service would be replacing bearings so an approach could be strip the motor and take the crankcase to someone who has shown the ability to do this - no particular YS knowledge required. If you decide to go this way REMEMBER cam out before crankshaft - crankshaft in before cam. If the chrome in the cylinder is scored or peeling this cannot be finessed - replace.
