I fly electrics and I dead stick land the plane about 75% of the time by choice. Motor off but all surface control working. Partly I just like to do it and partly it gives me practice for when I keep the plane up too long and the battery dies in the air. I guess running out of fuel on a glo plane would be the same thing.

I also fly sailplanes and, by definition, I am always flying dead stick. No motor!
