Interesting. I was a long-time Futaba user and recall this coming up before when the 6014 receiver was new. When exposed to direct sunlight as in the current CB discussion, it got hot enough to shut down. There was a lengthy discussion here Futaba 6014 receiver heat issue

Some good info in that thread and all the usual sillyness.

As I recall it was a voltage regulator inside the RX that was not spec'd to operate at a high enough temp .. e.g. 60C vs 75C. Other Futaba gear and other mfgs seemed not to be affected. If that 15C delta is what protects a plane, it seems risky to me .. we simply should not put our electronics in direct sunlight inside the plane. Easy enough to fix.

Always surprises me how hot things can get in direct sunlight .. not at all uncommon for iPhones left in the sun on a car seat to shut themselves down when they get too hot .. I've had it happen.

I left the Futaba family only because of their lack of innovation, and their primitive telemetry .. I am a happy Jeti user now so I really appreciate this info. Never ever had a link reliability issue with my Futaba .. nor have I with the Jeti.

So, while it is always good to investigate further and do a little "NTSB" work to understand the issue, my conclusion from this is to add to our list of best practices on installs to not put our electronics, of whatever brand, in direct sunlight.
