this Ziroli Stearman is commonly built at a flying weight of 35#. The UMS has an output of 7.6 hp, swings a 24/10 at 6000 rpm to produce 12.5 kg/ 27.6# of thrust, and weighs 7.7#.
the diameter is 10.2”.
i would be most interested in flying in a scale manner. Having more power than needed could be handy but I would most likely be flying about at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. I don’t want the plane/ engine combo to look ridiculous.
Do you fellows think it would be too much for this plane?
Several years ago I saw a modeler flying that plane/engine combination when it was under evolution brand, and it flew well! I believe you made the right choice for scale power. I would not go smaller in thrust, if anything the UMS 5-125cc would be my other consideration. Stearmans did run a 7cylinder though, but I don’t see a 7 available in your requested power range.
