Without any pictures to see the extent of the damage, it's hard to give an opinion. My guess is that the stronger and more permanent fix would be to disassemble the damaged area and rebuild it with good ply and reinforce the area with tri stock. Be sure to us a good quality 30 minute epoxy for the repairs...
