My issue is more about the less than perfect landings. One bounce or one long landing and it's gear repair time. My Boomerang Elan / P100 is never an issue at the same field. Of course it will slow to a brisk walk for landing. I routinely land the Joker on our 400' runway in it's current config, but the margin for error is zero. I'll give Dave's flap recommendation a try before swapping engines. Thanks for the comments!
