VNY is about 2-miles north of Apollo Field (Sepulveda Basin)
Cannot fly when they are using runway 34 either.
Fed's shut the field down in 2019. The club & LA City worked with the FAA & VNY's to reopen the field with the understanding of 250ft altitude restriction and no flying when 34 is used.
I believe it's been a model airplane field since the 60's. Some folks call it the jungle. Weekends can be a little crowed and crazy. There are a few fires every year, mostly from the homeless encampments, but sometimes a crashed model starts a fire.
There is a 600ft paved runway and loads of people flying jets. I've been flying there, on/off since 1989. The past five years I've been watching the jets with much envy and I've finally joined the fun.
