I'd be willing to bet that the problem you're experiencing is caused by the pins connecting the frequency module to the transmitters board. The older 8AUP's pins would break the solder joint causing intermittent contact. Later 8AUPs and all Futaba Super 8s had this problem fixed, and also added epoxy stabilizers around the pins to prevent this from happening.
