Sink raft here..

Long time no talk guys. Been kinda busy. Work, nap, work on model airplane work on female companionship, eat, sleep. Rinse, repeat.

Sunday was a pretty good day of flying, however the weather drunks fubard their forcast AGAIN. VERY odd winds on sunday. Was supposed to be the calmest winds since 3 months. The weather sock would so NO wind, but there was a ground wind that would almost blow your airplane over. The wind in the air was downright squirly. Never seen it like this. I have flown in much worse wind and landing in horrible crosswinds. But sunday, we had our UGLIEST landings. On one landing in particular, I was coming in toward the pavilion/grass expecting the crosswind to blow it over toward the runway and possibly even past. Nope, HARSH crosswind and my airplane is floating more and more over toward the 'spectator' area. Which is only 25 feet from the runway hehe. SO I push my rudder over , more more more ...more..all the way now and it's still flying toward us AGAINST the crosswind. Normally with that crosswind, half the rudder would have caused my Eagle to auger into the ground creating a new place to put a post and sign saying "don't stand here, danger". Alas, I throttled up and got her out of there. About 25 feet from the ground I finally picked up the crosswind and she almost winged over. Scarey as all hell. Very squirly. Our airfield is on top of a hill about 800 feet higher than the river below. I am wondering if that could have something to do with it. It is probably one of the highest points in the area also, but there is a gentle hill behind our field where the crosswind comes from that is higher at approximately 1000 yards in length and another 100 feet in elevation. Just wondering. I seem to experience a new type of weather everytime. It is SOOOO much more fun to fly without wind. The things you can do in the sky are fun. I was doing extremely high speed passes without the wind and doing touch and goes even with a decent crosswind. But Sunday, man was it wierd. It seemed that almost every 50 cubed feet had it's own weather patterns.
Glad to see you are back Elad. *S* (salute)
Tom, how's things going with the build? I FINALLY have my top wing completely. Just a few bits of sanding to do and I am moving on to the bottom wing. I joined the two halves and am excited with how it turned out. I used that template I spoke of and smeared balsa filler to decrease the low spots bringing me to my final shape. It's pretty well almost on the mark perfect to what it's supposed to be. Even my wing tips are nothing but two pieces of balsa block, cut from a larger block, glued in a sandwich formation over a 1/8" piece of ply that goes on the middle of the wing. Then I have to sand and shape that. Done. Pain in the arse.
Welp, back to work now guys. Take care. It's 3 dollar pizza day. Time to turn up the thermostat, kick back and doze off to some seinfield.

Ahhhhhhh.
