Well, speaking of winds. The field where I usually fly has three paved runways, in the standard crossed triangular pattern. These runways are on an open field about two miles square. Yes, cutting the grass is a pain. We also have three wind socks there, and it is not unusual to see all three of them pointing in different directions. But the wind direction changes are almost always gradual enough not to surprise.
And this field is only one of the eight we have. All but two are paved. One grass field is for the glider boys, they want the grass. The other we just got a couple months ago, not sure what we are going to do there.
