I use at least two wraps of tape, the CA (Zap-20) only spots to the outer layer, if you have to remove and pull the lead away, only a ‘dot’ of tape stays on the surface. There is another layer underneath. To replace add a new dot of glue and it goes down exactly where it was before.
There are vastly differing qualities of insulation tape, the ones I buy from electrical contractors stay stuck for years. I’ve been using this technique for almost 20 years and the original models still hold firm. It’s neat and very light.
Use one drop of SLO Zap around 3/32 dia, if the surface is textured it needs a touch more to fill in the voids, if it’s a difficult area I sometimes spray the surface with a squirt of Kicker before adding the Zap to tape, it then takes instantly
