Not only has the EC pushed the "just fly as you always have" as you noted, they've also chosen to "not notice" failure to follow AMA safety rules (note 1), you have EC members telling clubs that on an official document sent to the USG, "boundaries don't matter" (i.e. provide false info).
Note 1: flying over trails, turbine lack of flight discipline, overflight of non-participating neighbors, high speed dives at busy highways, flight above legal minimums at numerous SANCTIONED events, etc.
