Some folks are using various arrangements of ball links to connect the N struts. As you say Lou, the center cabane is really carrying the load.
I haven't tried it but what I recall seeing was something like mounting the ball on a metal tab built into the wings and screwing the adjustable socket end on the N strut.
I think it would work well and what's more, allow you to adjust the incidences.
