Default RE: stupid engine question

ORIGINAL: dmgiff

I know it's a dumb question, but I can't seem to find the answer... what are the different shaft-types on nitro engines?
There are three types of crankshafts on small block nitro engines:[*] Standard Crank - this is a std length, threaded crankshaft.[*] Short Crank - This is a shortened std threaded crank, usually reserved for Team Associated Vehicles.[*] Pilot or SG Crank - This is acrank that incorporates a pilot shaft into the crankshaft itself.

Here are some photos of each version.

This is a short crank

This is a Pilot/SG crank

I have a XXXNT and am going to be looking for a new engine soon, which brings up another question. Which engine to buy? I just want a fast, reliable engine for under about $170. I don't race, so it doesn't need to be legal, just fast...

Personally - i would recommend the Mugen MT12 - very very fast, and very reliable. This OS Max .15CV-R is also a great choice. Another Would be the Fantom FR18. All are great engines and within your price range
