A Wye winding, or Y-winding, is a specific configuration for three-phase electric motors and transformers where one end of each of the three windings is connected to a common central point (the "star point"), creating a Y or star-like shape. This connection allows for both line-to-line and line-to-neutral voltages, providing versatility for different loads and systems. Wye windings are also used in starting configurations, such as Wye-Start/Delta-Run, to reduce starting voltage and current.
