RE: Eagle 2 ARF & 4 Stroke Engine?
Shrink Wrapped:
I like to use a filter on the muffler pressure hose as well as the feed line to the engine, just for that reason. You are always going to get an amount of oil returned to the tank, but the filter keeps the larger bits out. And if you always run the fuel out at the end of a day's flying you wont have a large accumulation of oil and other liquid gunk - fresh fuel will dilute it and keep the tank rinsed.
You should never lose your respect for the prop. Even an 0.020 can do damage, a 1.20 can literally take fingers off. And a medium power electric can substitute for a meat grinder.
Back in the "Old days" everybody hand started their engines. I don't know how many times I've regrown the skin on the back of my right index and middle fingers - I'm stuck on electric starters now. Of course, a 0.35 was the normal size then, with a 0.60 you were either flying control line speed or contest free flight. There have been some changes since then.
Safety glasses are not uncalled for, I have a nice pair of shooting glasses (amber color) that not only protect my eyes, the color increases contrast and makes the planes more easily seen. If you've never tried the amber, do so. Go to your local sporting goods store and stick a pair on, look out the door. And they still work well at dusk, perhaps even better then than in the sunlight.
