Since the receiver seems to be working for you, it might be okay, but since you did notice smoke, I would do a VERY thorough ground check before using this. I would really recommend that this be sent in so that the technicians can check this over for you.

The receiver is protected from reverse polarity causing heavy damage to the main board in just a case as yours. But again, I cannot stress enough that a thorough range check should be done each and every time before flight, if you are not going to send this to be checked.
