RE: Eagle 2 ARF & 4 Stroke Engine?
Bill,
I'll try the highlight text, ctrl c, then crtl v on this post. I did look for the text in the temp file once upon a time, after the post was lost, but naturally there was nothing there.
Thanks for the tip. Yep that should save me from re-typing and re-thinking. Re-thinking is the hard part. ha
In my experience with SSB rigs I could get them up to about 25 w on SSB. Most of the AM radios (Uniden & Cobra) I could get up to 12 to 15 w. while modulating the carrier That is except for the really cheaply made ones. Most of the time I would cut the limiting diode or just max out the control pot for modulation. Usually that gave 125% or would actually go completely off the scale of the modulation meter. It always amazed me thet the distortion wasn't too bad to remove intelligibility from the voice. Heck that part of the meter may have been extremely innacurate though.
I callibrated my watt meter with a Tectronics 100mHz oscilloscope. That might not have been accurate either.
I sold a lot of store bought amps but never built any. The only building of amps I ever did was when I made VFOs down on 80m and 40m.
I made one that put out a whopping 140mW on 40m and talked to people (CW) within a 5 state radius in the daytime, and to Canada during the early evening hours. It was juat a tiny little bit drifty, so I had to maintain an exact speed to keep it on frequency while monitoring the freq with my main rig. ha I wound the coils on plastic medicine bottles instead of using torroid cores. And I boiled them after getting them near enough to the dseired freq. I think the medicine bottle cores were more stable, and using the rat shack NPO caps helped a lot too. Those NPOs aren't available down here any more.
I tried turning that xmitter into a xcvr by switching in an offset capacitor, but I never got that part of the circuit to work right. The freq. spread was always too great no matter what I tried. Maybe the switching transistor's internal capacitance was interracting. [>:]
Oh well, enough of the technical stuff and pounding brass for one night.
