Hi DriverCrazy,

newer pattern planes are not suitable because they are built and feature large control surfaces, whereas you need smaller ones. I suggest you dig out a vintage pattern plane as they are being discussed on this forum: in the past days pattern was always flown full-throttle and planes were built accordingly. I remember a friend's Shocker pattern plane exceed 150 kmh (measured) while picking up speed for a vertical manoever - power was not what it is nowadays.

Speed planes should be speed planes and pattern planes should be pattern planes. My guess is that a pattern plane trimmed for speed is either good at one thing but not particularly good at the other. But that's jsut my $0.02.
