I'll bet there will be some diagreement here but I use denatured alcohal. It evaporates quickly, cuts through varnish(even in areas you can't access) and leaves no residue. It's also slightly easier on your hands than acetone or glow fuel. As with all these products do it in a well ventilated area. When I put a motor in the dirt I always disassemble completly for two reasons. One , if it was a violent crash I really want to inspect every part for dammage. And two, if your taking the thing apart any way it doesn't take mutch longer, and you will know you got all the abrasive material out of the motor. Be sure to comlpetly lube the motor upon reassembly, all moving parts, and don't forget to oil your rubber parts as the alcohol leaves nothing behind. I use afterrun oil, Marvel Mystery Oil, or WD40 whatever you have. I havent had any problems with any one of them. I prefer after run oil though as it seems to have a higher viscosity, especially if your not going to run the engine for a while. Anyway theres my imput. Hope it helps.
