Here is the one of the most common reaction mechanisms for methanol oxidation on Pt
Pt + CH3OHPt ---> CO +4H+ +4e-
Pt+H2OPt --- Pt-OH +H+ +e-
Pt-CO +Pt-OH ---> 2Pt + CO2 + H+ +e-
As you can see Pt is not consumed.
