Default RE: Let's meet the new guys!

Greetings from Easley, South Carolina my name is Tommy and I have been in RC Airplanes for the last 18 years and I have been teaching new pilots to fly for the last 15 years.

I am a Nuclear I & C technician for a local power company.

Since I have learned how to fly and achieved SOLO status my ambition has been teaching new pilots how to fly. I want to put back into our sport what was given to me and that is doing whatever it takes to assist or make better the learning curve that is given to new pilots.

I started out in this hobby with a .20 basic trainer and attempted to fly it alone before I was ready, 1st mistake of many to come. That is why my ambition towards teaching others so that they do not have to face what I did alone and not knowing before they were ready.

I found a friend that was interested in trying it alone and between us we managed to rekit many airplanes before I got tired of reassembling pieces of broken airplanes.

I finally gave in and joined a club for instruction and after a few days of having someone standing by my side and teaching me I was able to earn my SOLO status.

The club that I belonged to did not have any written documentation for flight training so this is where I started my quest.

I helped put together all documentation for the clubs Rules and Regs and followed thru assembing our Flight Training manual so that anyone that came into the club would have one document describing what our club was about.

I started taking on assisting new pilots in learning how to fly although I was nervious at first I come to realize as each pilot learned a new skill I felt the same responses that I encountered when I achieve them when I was learning.

You talk about giving a gift that has rewards or a feeling of satisfaction this is where it's at :-).

I am planning to building a Flight School in my back yard so that I may continue this quest.

If at any time you have questions for me please feel free to send me an email, I am not an expert by any strech of the emagination but the fire that I feel from helping others carrys my ambition and I will gladly share so that others don't have to suffer the consequences of going it alone.
