2:1?! That explains the 14"+ prop.. Who sells RCV engines? Is there a weblink available?

Being geared 2:1 you can only expect a shaft RPM in the 5,000 to 6,000 RPM range. You need a prop that will generate the thrust you need in that speed range. I don't think a 12x8 2 bladed prop at 6,000 will get you very much performance, my $0.02.
I have one coming for a 1/5 scale WWI project which should fly very slowly with the 3 wings and under-cambered airfoil. I plan to start with something around a 18x10 and see where that goes.
