Stick with 2D for now.
Although Acad can and does do 3D, it is an other ball of wax. One mistake can lead to the entire model being scrapped. simple things are about the best one can do.
All of us '3D moedelers' now use 'parametric' modellers (Mecahincal Deskop or Inventor, for example) and we have much much more control over our 3D models. And you really have to have a good grasp of spacial organization / thinking in 3D.
As Jacs has said, you can 'extrude' shapes, but they have to be 'closed profiles' and usually always made up of poly lines. But the extrusions are usually constant (well they can be changed by the 'draft angle, but that's another lesson) also, all teh extrusions are usllay from one drawing plane. A tapered fuse will be moer trial and error, let alone dialing wing dehidral..
