Default help with 21st Century paint

You know when your little voice says...don't do that...wait and get the right stuff?

I am using a dark red 21st cent paint on my plastic skybolt cowl to match dark red monokote. I forgot to get the primer for it and tested tremclad primer on some plastic and it seemed fine. Couple coats of primer...wet sanded to 300, sprayed the 21st tonight and it seems to be attacking the edges of the primer anywhere there was a scratch...little orange peel here and there, perfect in other spots.... the other problem is that over grey primer its too dark. I guess it was intended to go over white.

here's the question....if after the red has fully cured can I sand the gloss off the red, spray over with the correct primer, then re-apply the red?
