RE: P-38 Fly-In
You know, it seems like this is evolving into two basic areas of interest: the Midwest and the South/Southwest. Maybe we should think about two centers, maybe simultaneous events, to get it going and keep folks from having to drive too far the first year. Stick a pin in the map at Peoria, IL and Dallas, TX and draw a 300 mile radius around each and you've covered a pretty good number of these responses. Overlap those circles in Kansas City and you're within 600 miles of everybody the second year if it's been a success and people are fired up about it. Or stick with TX or IL if one is greatly more successful than the other.
Naturally, everybody would like to have it at their field or just down the road, but that might not be as much of a slam dunk as you first imagine. Face it: once you get the birds packed up in the trailer, what's an extra 200 miles or so? Interesting new faces, new places, and MOST OF THE WORK'S GONNA BE DONE BY THE GUYS HOSTING THE EVENT! For that reason alone, I'm hoping it's a long way from home.
