You've got to tell us more about the MVVS 58 you're using. What prop? What did it do to your balancing? Is it really as strong as they claim on their websites (41 lbs of thrust and will swing up to a 26-10)? It sounds like a real stump puller. And last - are you going to sell it and if so, at what price and what muffler recommendation?
The MVVS 58 is indeed real. I flew it with a 3w 24-10, which was laying around and left over from my 3w75. I did not have a tach with me but the engine sounds very similar to that 3w 75 in power/rpm. For such a small engine it does an excellent job with that big prop.
I am using a fairly restrictive Bisson wraparound muffler which is definitely holding the engine back. With a decent header /canister setup it would make more power and less noise. But for a plane of this size it's still way plenty of power. I don't think I used full throttle at all.
I am flying this engine on a prototype of the new Extra 300L so the balance issue is not the same as the Edge, but overall weight is about the same. The MVVS 58 is about 1 pound heavier than a DA-50, which is no big deal on a plane with 1350+ in. sq. wing.
The engine is very well behaved, idles nicely, starts very easily, is reliable and responsive, and generally easy to live with. I don't know if we'll be selling them, it depends on the US distributor.
Speaking of engine weight, I think Geistware might have less issue with the right thrust if he would try a little more forward CG. I found flying IMAC that the Edge is much better about holding lines with a little more weight on the nose. I added 4 oz. to my DA-50 setup and it made a huge difference.
