Default Question for RCIGN

I read an explanation of the CH ignition operation on the GSAL list. The CH synchro spark is full advance if the rpm is less than some minimum value (150 rpm, I believe). This way you can set the timing at 28 degrees BTDC - statically. But, it also means you shouldn't slowly move the prop when the magnet is near the Hall sensor with the engine ready to run. You'll get full advance.

The Falkon ignitions on the ZDZ, are set up in the full retarded position statically. These igntions advance only with increasing rpm, so slow turning of the prop will not cause full advance.

The DA and 3W ignitions use a pickup coil (not a Hall sensor) and will not spark at all below a certain critical rpm as a safety feature. So, you need a healthy flip or you won't get any spark. If the ignition box is working properly, the timing will always be retarded during starting.
