Here's a stock Dave Brown mount, and here's the same mount on a diet, and a shot of the cut off beams and tri-stock for them. The lightened mount weighs .36 oz. and the cut off stuff comes in at .19 for a weight penalty of .17 oz. I'll take the mount for tenth and a half.

You don't have to, but that's what Chris recommends. I'm putting a Dave Brown in a Bridgeport and trimming some fat. Probably won't weigh any more than the stock ply beams when I'm through.
