Seriously, though, I've noted that most of the posters to this thread pushed for having it in their own backyard (home state, anyway).

That's not what I wanted or envisioned, but you have to figure that's the reality of majority opinion and go with it. I did make contact with a few people from our area (state), so it's been a productive thread. Setting something up with a more local flavor would still be a lot of fun, and is probably the angle we'll pursue for now.
