the supplied fuel tank has a lip on it and I cant seem to figure out how it is to fit fully in the hole.
Use a drum sander with a Dremel tool to enlarge the hole in the firewall for the fuel tank cap to fit through. This is common practice. I like to make the hole about 1/16" to 1/8" larger than the fuel tank cap. This way, I can line the hole with silicone sealant to secure the fuel tank cap and provide some cushion for it.
Also I have never built a plane with a cowling and can not figure out based on the manual where the four wood blocks are glued on to attach the cowling.
Are you asking about the location of each block like on a clock face, such as at 12,3,6,9, or are you asking about the radial distance between two opposite blocks on the firewall?
If you are asking about the location of each block, just pick four empty spots on the firewall that are not close to your engine or muffler, such as 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock, and 9 o'clock. You can also use 1:30, 4:30, 7:30, and 10:30.
If you are asking about the radial distance between two opposite blocks, measure the inside diameter of your cowl and space out the blocks appropriately.
