Yes, I mix up elevator with down flaperon and it works well. You can lower the stall speed a good bit.

As for the rudder, it does not have much authority. The magic is a great plane but not for learning to hover. The Morris Knife is MUCH easier to hover, you'll rarely need full rudder with the Knife!
