Shortly after shooting this video, the replacement brushed motor burned out. The original motor had lasted about 10 flights, the replacement motor only lasted about 3 flights due to excessive torque rolling. I'm now flying a brushless Himax 2015-4100 and a Castle Creations Phoenix 25 controller in my 3DX and have been extremely pleased with the results!
In hindsight, I should have gone brushless from the beginning since a brushless Himax motor with a brushless CC controller works out to be about the same price as a brushed controller and 6 replacement brushed motors.
My advice is to spend the extra buck$ up front on a bru$hle$$ motor and controller. In the long run, the brushless setup will be cheaper than a brushed setup, and you'll avoid the hassle of dealing with burned out brushed motors. Since it's very likely that you'll end up going brushless later on anyway, you won't want to end up like me with an expensive but useless brushed controller as a token reminder that I should have listened to the advice I was given about going brushless to start with.
