Default RE: Taking off my SPA3DT?? Help..

Let me start by saying I love my SPA3D. Thanks to Tattoo, I ALWAYS have a 3D plane ready to fly in 24 hours or less.

Unfortunately, the landing gear is far forward of the optimal spot for tracking on the ground. When the CG is this far behind the wheels, the tail really wants to come around while rolling. I personally would't want to change where the landing gear is because it's the perfect place to bolt it on, it saves props, and it protects the engine.

Toe in helps and toe out would certanly hurt. It also helps to not have the landing gear spread too wide. But the best thing I have found to do is get the thing flying as fast as possible, preferably from grass rather than asphalt. It is stable as soon is there is enough air blowing over the tail to keep it tracking. My method is to point it away from the flightline, hold a little up elevator, and hit full throttle. It lifts off in a matter of feet and then I immediatly reduce throttle to half or less.

Anyone else using this method?
