Gunny Struts
Now you have found out that my short arms just won't reach the nose. I cut the cockpit area out with a dremel very fine saw. The line was over the top and just above the radome forward. This way I could put the nose in through the cockpit area. (One photo is prior to tail installation and shows the main gear box, 2 spruce spars, and the inside of the cockpit showing how it was cut out.
This has worked well, but a pain to do. I used 1/4" ply for about a 1/3 bulkhead. Consider my nose gear does retract. Another advantage was mine was tail heavy and I had to add 1# 5 Oz to the nose. I put the weight as a bulkhead to the radome. I also put the battery in the radome. The weight bolts in and holds the weight in place. I attached photos of the nosewheel assembly I made and the retract/servo system on the bulkhead. The bulkhead was 1/4" ply with 1" glass (4oz) fiberglassing in place. The servo mounts on a 1/8" ply plate that bolts to the 1/4" bulkhead with 4x40 socket head screws. This way I can remove the servo package to replace etc. I showed a pic of the tail bulkhead. You will notice I milled the lightening slots. Caution easy to be tail heavy.
