I use pull-pull on all my bigger planes. I also do not tie directly to the servo; I install a pulley near the servo and drive the pulley with a short stiff arm from the servo using ball joints. I always leave the line as loose as possible without jumping off the pulley. One of mine has been in service over 12 years and a couple more greatter than 5 years with never any problems.
