robostruts are a shock absorbing landing gear, simulating full sale "Oleo" struts. (Oleo struts work a lot like a car shock absorbers) Because there is a sprng action... they can take shock load off the retrac mount. They can also help prevent bent struts.

Mechanical retracts by nature are a pain in the tail. There isn't a good way to make a LIGHT retract that has good shock absorbing ability. When you relplace a bent wire strut that has a 6 inch long torsion spring section (that's why that LONG part parallels the wing spar) with a system that has a small single coil... you have taken out up to 80% of the spring action.

That is why retract struts get bent a lot.
