RE: How long to Solo?
I went solo after my first day of training with my duraplane trainer 40. I was doing touch and go's on the first day with about 6 flights and a guy who was not a trainer but did a good job of training. I did put a lot of hours on my g2 sim while building my plane and I think it helped greatly. I now have about 100 flights in and own 6 planes and am working on building a taildragger trainer to learn how to fly those. The best advise I could give is to give it time and don't rush it. Its not a race to see who can crash first. The only reason I was doing solo on my second day is because nobody was at the field when I got there and had about 3 hours of flight time to myself before anyone showed up. By then I think I had about 5 or 6 flights in and was feeling good about landing (which sorta helps the nervs a little bit).
