Default RE: Can anyone help?

I am not sure if the motor or speed controller are bad they are brand new. I think that the reason the "brake" was coming on was my fault. I didn't have the gear mesh tight enough and i think it was the gears slipping! I flew it today and no "brake" sound. I think I have that problem solved. I did though lose power for a split second only a couple of times. It seemed to be much better.
I have one question. Should the speed contorl be mounted far away from the receiver or is it ok to be close to it? I have the speed control held down with a rubber band and it sits on top of the receiver. I few it with the speed control hanging away from the receiver and the glitching seemed to be down by about 95%.
