Scott, Yes, you can do that, but be careful not to sand through the clear. If you do, it will show when you re-coat it. If you've got two or more existing coats of clear, those dry spots will most likely polish out. Sand lightly with the 1200 and then hand rub it with rubbing compound until the desired results are obtained. Good luck..........RS
