Just have to give you my story. Breezed through the pre-flight questions and walk-around. got in, took off, filed my flight plan and headed out. After I had made a couple of waypoints, the examiner had me cancel the flight plan and headed me over to the practice area. Everything going perfect.......all my safety procedures textbook. Then he says "Set up for an emergency landing" No sweat, done this plenty of times. Pull back power, set up best glide and start making slow sweeping S turns. I'm looking for the biggest, flatest piece of real estate with no obstructions. After what seemed an eternity, I point out a really nice patch just to our 10:00 postion. He leans forward, looks. "Yea, that's really nice BUT what about this airport to our right?" OMG, I thought I was going to die, figured I had certainly flunked my ride. He just grinned and laughed, apparently he does this to all his examinees. Anyway, I passed and learned another lesson at the same time. As everyone has been saying, relax, try to enjoy this.
